Take it from me. Someone who has suffered some extreme consequences for being honest. It is NOT the best policy.
Never tell a friend what you really think about another friend.
Never tell a friend what you think about them. They will never understand.
Never even think that u might be doing anyone any favours by providing honest advice. Even if they asked and begged for it.
Never fall for a friends request of "Im looking for something specific, can you help?" bullshit.
Never try to set up any friends together.
Never provide advice that isnt asked for.
Keep your opinions to yourself. Unless the friend agrees with them, ur always the bad guy.
I have learned that a friend expects you to think the best of them. I always thought that its the flaws and mistakes that make a person unique and special. And thats what I love my friends for. The quirky aspects of their personalities that I might not necessarily agree with. But I never judge. If I did I wouldnt have been their friend.
I will never think like that again. And especially never verbalise what I really think about anyone ever again. Its not worth it having good intentions at heart and then coming out the bitch / asshole that ruined someone's life.

I feel you. Honesty simply does not work, unfortunately. You are supposed to be "supportive" with friends--even when they insist on standing in the middle of a rail-road track with a train headed right at them. Bizzare, isn't it?
Honesty does work, but people miskate it for weakness, I strongly believe in honesty, but also exercise discretion.
white lie..is ok...case by case.
Honesty doesn't work. OK so it does, but rarely. Just imagine what life would be if we knew the WHOLE truth!
I don't even want to picture it.
Ugh.
Yep...there are some things we should just keep to ourselves :-D
